The Turtle and the Hare (review)

Oh my goodness – the acronyms in The Turtle and the Hare had me snickering throughout this book! Plus the romance and banter had me zooming through this short (136 page) book.

I’ve been loving shifter romances recently – and have been having fun exploring all the different shifter types romance authors have been writing.

“Turtle and the Hare” is part of the Furry United Coalition EveL Worlds and is the first of three that are on my shelf in this world by Amanda Kimberly. I cannot wait to read the other two, and maybe discover other authors in this world.

Cold Sweat (review)

Happy National Kool-Aid Day!

I couldn’t help it, I *had* to post Cold Sweat today to celebrate Kool-Aid Days. This was my first by Vera Valentine, but definitely will not be my last. It was also my first sentient object romance. This author really makes you accept that the MMC is a glass pitcher of Cherry Chill-Assist Punch and that its normal and you just go with it.

I laughed a lot while reading this – the ice clinking, the sloshing, the ice cold pitcher cooling Jules’ skin.

I went into this with very little expectations, I just wanted there to be one “OH YEAH” somewhere within these 54 pages. (And I was totally rewarded with the best “OH YEAH” I could have hoped for.)

Leather & Lark (review)

Leather and Lark was one of my most anticipated reads this year. I absolutely LOVED Butcher and Blackbird and was looking forward to reading Lark and Lachlan’s story.

Leather and Lark was definitely very different from Butcher and Blackbird, and while it was a very different from the first in the trilogy, I still enjoyed this read. Leather and Lark did not have the same gore and smut as B&B, but there was definitely still some stabby moments (and crafts!).

On the other hand, the villain was so, so obvious it was a little disappointing.

I absolutely LOVED the banter between Lark and Lachlan in the beginning – before they officially meet (Budget Batman?! iykyk). But afterwards, I wanted more from both main characters, especially Lachlan!

I am still looking forward to the final book in this trilogy (Scythe and Sparrow publishes January 2025).

A Daughter of Fair Verona (review)

“Nothing bad ever came of love at first sight, right?”

A little bit of romance, a little bit of mystery, an a sassy main character made A Daughter of Fair Verona a really fun read. Thank you for the #gifted copy @bibliolifestyle @kensingtonbook!

Rosie Montague is the daughter of Romeo and Juliet (yup, THAT Romeo and Juliet) and she’s been dodging betrothals and matchmaking her suitors instead. But at her betrothal ball, her groom-to-be is found dead in the garden.

I absolutely loved Rosie – she’s independent and speaks her mind. I listened to this as an audiobook and it felt like talking with a good friend. I also loved Nurse (also maybe one of y favorite characters from Romeo & Juliet, so I’m glad the author kept her sass in this retelling).

There is definitely romance in this book (clean romance, there’s some highly scandalous kissing), a few murders, a whodunnit, and small town drama. I loved every minute of this book.

Humor Me (review)

I expected Humor Me to resemble the HBOMax show Hacks, but told from the POV of the writer (or assistant in the case of Humor Me). However, this did not live up to my expectations of humor and wit with the comparison I had made based on the synopsis.

In fact, there is a bit of this audiobook that I must have tuned out or glossed over because I don’t honestly remember too many of the details. I did enjoy the exploration of navigating of relationships in your 20s.

I would have liked to see more of Susan’s growth and as a person. I enjoyed Presley and Susan’s budding relationship, but it felt like her character wasn’t very dimensional.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for providing this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Fondant Fumble (review)

Fondant Fumble is a sweet, bakery-based cozy mystery that I adored listening to. The set up, two professional football players buy a cupcake bakery franchise as part of their long-term plan for after they retire from the sport, but shortly after the cupcakery opens, the owner of the team is is found dead one the bakery floor.

I loved all of these characters, but I definitely want more Mama June. Like, can she have her own spin off, please? And, I appreciate the recipes at the end of the book (because SO MANY CUPCAKES!) but it’s a shame that the peach cobbler cupcake recipe was read on an audiobook and I don’t have it in my hand.

I did feel like the suspect was a little too obvious, but that didn’t hinder my enjoyment of the book and the journey to the conclusion.

I received a copy of this audiobook from #NetGalley and #dreamscapemedia for an honest review.

Enjoy the View (Review)

“It’s hard to kiss a man with a beard. You have to go spelunking to find his mouth.”

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again – if it’s a romcom set in Alaska, I’m going to read it! I absolutely loved Sarah Moreenthaler’s The Tourist Attraction, and have had Enjoy the View, the third book in her Moose Springs, Alaska series, on my wish list for a while.

Enjoy the View was different than the other Moose Springs, Alaska book. There was more adventure and so much more pining and the sexual tension was palpable even through the speakers while listening to this on audiobook.

I loved Easton in the previous Moose Springs books, so I’m so glad he got his own story and his own HEA. And River was such a fun complement to Easton – she’s spunky, willful and jumps in feet first. The banter between the two of them – *chef’s kiss.*

This series is interconnected standalones, so you could absolutely just jump in with Easton and River’s story, fall in love with Moose Springs and then meet the rest of the townies in the other books.
